To most clubs the honour boards are the open record of achievement, and commitment of past members to the running of the club. The boards themselves may go back many years and be made of high quality wood with distinctive carving. The replacement of which could be very expensive. Any negotiation aimed at producing a successful claim for an authentic looking replication will depend on being able to show detailed visual provenance of the original boards. It's also worth remembering that quality period sign-writing skills are rapidly declining.
