Our intention is to leave you with a database of high-resolution images of any painting and framed memorabilia. If any of these items was ever damaged or destroyed, the images on the CD-ROMs could be the basis of a valuation of its condition, or, in the case of paintings, of invaluable assistance to any restoration artist. Similarly, once archived, we could replace any black & white or colour prints. Paintings are photographed with and without an industry standard colour and black & white tone chart. Specific attention is given to the exposure and mouldings on frames as well as identifying any inscriptions. Often paintings are hung in inaccessible places and it would be too difficult and time consuming to take them down. We can photograph them in-situ, without loss of detail and colour balance, whilst still retaining the correct perspective. Damaged and faded photographs can be copied in their glass frames and the image restored. Old press cuttings that are damaged, or have a coarse halftone screen over them, can also be copied and blended to lose the screen. Any valuable artifacts are photographed in detail to show their age and condition. This could become important if any were lost or stolen, as the photographs can compare their condition and value to the last time a similar object came up at auction.
